Make time to reflect on how you were parented

Our first lessons in how to parent were learned from our parents. How we were parented – whether good or not so good – can show up in our behavior, particularly in times of stress.

Fortunately, research on reflective parenting shows that it’s not so much how we were parented that writes the script for us in our parenting as it is how we’ve come to understand it. By making time to reflect on how we were parented, we can think about what we want to repeat with our children and what we want to leave behind.

Watch as Marti opens up about her own childhood and the stress that she experienced as her teenage parents struggled to raise their young children. Through support systems and reflection, Marti shares what she wants to repeat with her children and grandchildren and what she intentionally tries to leave behind.
